Hua Chunying named China’s vice foreign minister

BEIJING – The State Council of China has appointed Hua Chunying as country’s vice foreign minister. Born in 1970, Ms Chunying graduated from Nanjing University with a major in English Language and literature. She has previously served in the Department of Western European Affairs, European Affairs and Information Department.

Hua Chunying also served as the deputy director-general of the department of press, communication and public diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA). She is also the fifth female spokesperson for the MFA. In July 2019, she replaced Lu Kang as the director-general of the ministry’s department of press, communication and public diplomacy. She was appointed assistant minister of foreign affairs in 2021.

Ms Hua has also performed duties in the Chinese Embassy in Singapore and the Chinese Mission to the European Union.
