Trump-Harris debate attracted over 67 million TV viewers

NEW YORK: The US presidential debate between Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris and Republican candidate Donald Trump attracted 67.1 million television viewers, according to Nielsen data released on Wednesday.
The event, held on Tuesday night, marked the first face-to-face meeting between the candidates ahead of the November 5 presidential election.
This viewership surpasses the approximately 51 million people who tuned in to watch Trump debate then-candidate President Joe Biden in June.
However, the figure does not account for online streaming, which has become increasingly popular as traditional TV audiences decline.
The record for the highest TV viewership during a presidential debate was set in 2016, when 84 million people watched Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton debate Trump.
