Tensions flare between PTI leaders, Imran Khan's sister
1. Sources say heated exchange involved Barrister Gohar, Aleema Khan, Faisal Chaudhry and Mashal Yousafzai
RAWALPINDI: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), already grappling with internal and external challenges, has once again been thrown into turmoil as party founder Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, became embroiled in a heated exchange with party Chairman Barrister Gohar, sources told Geo News on Monday.
The verbal altercation also involved Khan's lawyer, Faisal Chaudhry, and Mashal Yousafzai, the spokesperson for Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, during their visit to Adiala jail for the latest hearing of the Toshakhana case.
The discord among the PTI leaders centered around the November 24 protest, which had been organized on the instructions of the imprisoned PTI founder.
Sources revealed that Bushra Bibi had briefed the PTI founder on the protest, mentioning that the mobilization from Punjab had been minimal. Barrister Gohar intervened, stating that 5,000 people from Punjab had been arrested and informed Khan about the extensive crackdown and mass arrests targeting PTI members in the province.
Aleema Khan then questioned Faisal Chaudhry regarding the lack of access to newspapers and other facilities for her brother. Chaudhry responded by stating that he was doing everything within his capacity, expressing frustration over the absence of senior party officials actively engaging with the court.
Aleema also raised concerns about the monitoring commission set up by the Islamabad High Court. Yousafzai accused Chaudhry of obstructing the commission’s work, to which Chaudhry replied that the commission was court-mandated and beyond his control.
Barrister Gohar suggested that certain decisions should be left to the leadership to avoid further confusion, warning that excessive debates over protests and sacrifices could lead to disorder.
Imran Khan attributed the reluctance in Punjab to the region's authoritarian actions and mentioned that 200 participants from the D-Chowk protest remained missing.
This incident marks the second time in less than 10 days that a dispute occurred at Adiala jail. On December 5, Aleema Khan had confronted Barrister Gohar and Barrister Salman Akram Raja over claims regarding deaths during PTI protests in the capital.
Additionally, two days ago, Gohar refuted Aleema’s claim that she had been offered her brother’s immediate release in exchange for ending the sit-in, calling it “false.”
