Angelina Jolie makes shocking confession about her acting career
1. Angelina Jolie reveals how ‘Maria’ movie changed perspective about her craft
Angelina Jolie recently made a surprising admission about her acting career, revealing that she was often not taken seriously as an artist due to her celebrity status.
In an interview with Radio Times, the Maleficent star explained that her new role as opera singer Maria Callas allowed her to "rediscover" her craft.
“It was a challenge,” said the 49-year-old actress. “I watched old interviews with Callas, and they spent hours talking to her about her art.” She reflected, “Nobody’s ever done that for me. She was taken seriously.”
Angelina explained that she hadn’t allowed herself to truly enjoy being an artist, as her career often became entangled with the pressures of celebrity and business. “It is a gift to be allowed to live a life as an artist,” she remarked. “This role has helped me rediscover that.”
Through playing Maria, Angelina felt like she was reconnecting with the art of acting. She also shared her experience learning to sing opera for the role, admitting, “You really can’t fake opera. It has to be a full-body experience.”
Angelina, who was nominated for a Golden Globe for her portrayal of Maria, even found opera singing to be therapeutic. “I would recommend it for anyone. When people go through things in life, it stores in your body. It affects your posture and your stomach. But to sing opera, you have to unlock all those parts of yourself,” she said.
