Days after the horrific incident of a landlord amputating a camel's leg, another case of animal cruelty emerged in Rawalpindi, where a man chopped off the ears of a pregnant donkey.
According to the police, the perpetrator, an influential figure, resorted to physical violence against the donkey for entering his farm in the Rawat area. A case was registered against the suspect, Arshad Mehmood, based on a complaint by the donkey's owner, Tanveer Hussain.
The First Information Report (FIR) stated that Hussain had let his donkey loose to drink water after harvesting wheat, but she wandered into Mehmood's agricultural land. In response, Mehmood allegedly sliced off both of the donkey's ears. The FIR also mentioned that Mehmood was an influential personality in the area, and people feared naming him.
In a video statement, Hussain declared his intent to seek justice for his donkey on every possible forum.
This incident follows another case in Sindh's Sanghar area, where a landlord cut off a female camel's leg for similar reasons. The Sindh police apprehended five individuals involved in the camel's abuse, and the injured animal was transferred to Karachi for treatment.
