Punjab bans pillion riding under section 144 in Muharram
1. LAHORE: The Punjab home department has imposed Section 144 to boost security throughout the province during the holy month of Muharram
The Punjab Home Department has issued a notification detailing several measures to ensure public safety during the month of Muharram. The key points are as follows:
1. **Ban on Firearms and Ammunition**: The display of firearms and ammunition in public places is banned without prior permission.
2. **Pillion Riding Ban**: From the 7th to the 10th of Muharram, pillion riding on motorcycles will be prohibited, except for elderly citizens, women, and security personnel.
3. **Section 144 Enforcement**: Section 144 will be in effect from the 1st to the 10th of Muharram, which includes a ban on provocative speeches and slogans.
4. **Ban on Rooftop Bunkers and Storage**: There is a prohibition on building bunkers or storing items such as stones, bricks, bottles, or garbage on rooftops along the routes of Muharram processions.
Additionally, the Punjab Home Department has laid out stringent security guidelines for Muharram:
- **Security for Gatherings and Processions**: A total of 37,376 Majalis (religious gatherings) and 10,426 processions are scheduled, each backed by detailed security plans.
- **Sensitive Locations**: 502 locations across Punjab have been identified as sensitive. Army and Rangers personnel will be deployed at these sites to maintain order and prevent any potential incidents.
