To ensure public safety, the Sindh government has imposed a province-wide ban on pillion riding, including in Karachi, on the eve of Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA).

At the request of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ghulam Nabi Memon, the Sindh Home Department enforced the ban in various districts where Chehlum processions are scheduled for August 26.

According to officials, the provincial police chief recommended this precautionary measure in a letter dated August 8. The ban is intended to ensure a peaceful observance of Chehlum and prevent any potential incidents.

In Karachi, the ban will be in place in the South Range from August 25 to 27, in the East Range on August 26, and in the West Range from August 25 to 26.

The ban will also apply in other districts: Hyderabad and Thatta from August 25 to 26, Mirpurkhas from August 26 to 27, Shaheed Benazirabad and Sanghar on August 26, Sukkur Range from August 24 to 26, Khairpur from August 24 to 29, and Ghotki on August 26.

In the Larkana Range, the ban will be imposed in Larkana district on August 26, and from August 25 to 26 in Kamber, Jacobabad, and Kashmore districts.

Additionally, the provincial government has banned the use of drones, citing security concerns during the Chehlum.

Chehlum will be observed on Monday across the province with religious fervor and strict security. The event marks the end of the 40-day mourning period following the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his 72 companions in the Battle of Karbala on the 10th of Muharram in 680 AD. Mourning processions featuring Alam, Tazia, and Zuljinah will be held in various cities across the province.
