1. KARACHI: A Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) officer has been booked for alleged kidnapping and extortions reported citing sources.

According to sources, a case has been registered against Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Sub-Inspector Rafaqat Shah at the Tipo Sultan police station for allegedly kidnapping a youth named Jasim from a hotel and demanding a ransom of Rs 400,000. After the ransom was paid, Jasim was released. Despite being suspended on April 24, Rafaqat Shah was reinstated on May 1 by a high-ranking officer. CTD sources revealed that the Assistant Inspector General (AIG) has requested the Inspector General (IG) to cancel the reinstatement order, and a petition has been filed at the Soldier Bazaar police station to that effect.

In a separate incident, Rangers personnel raided the CTD office in Karachi and rescued an abducted citizen. The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of CTD, Asif Aijaz Shaikh, stated that the CTD officials failed to report the detention of the individual, who had recently arrived from Iraq, to higher authorities and did not officially record his detention. The CTD initially demanded a ransom of Rs 500,000 from the victim’s family, which was later negotiated down to Rs 100,000. As a result, the DIG CTD announced the suspension of four CTD officials, including the Station House Officer (SHO), Sub-Inspector, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), and a Constable.
