ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to visit the United Arab Emirates (UAE) early next month, marking his first international trip of the year.

Sources revealed on Friday that the prime minister will be a guest of honor at the World Government Summit, hosted by UAE Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Pakistan has officially accepted the UAE government’s invitation to the summit.

Last year, several global leaders, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, participated in the event. While Modi is expected to attend again this year, New Delhi has yet to confirm his participation.

Diplomatic observers believe that a meeting between Shehbaz and Modi is unlikely due to ongoing tensions between Pakistan and India. However, Shehbaz is expected to hold sideline discussions with other world leaders, including UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The summit is scheduled for February 11 and will run for three days under the theme “Shaping Future Governments.” The event will bring together governments, international organizations, thought leaders, and private sector representatives to promote international collaboration, address future challenges, and empower the next generation of governments with innovative solutions.

According to diplomatic sources, Shehbaz will be one of the keynote speakers at the summit. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will also address a session. Federal ministers managing economic portfolios are expected to accompany Shehbaz on this visit.
