ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a meeting on Saturday to discuss the winding up of the Pakistan Public Works Department (PWD) and its alternative arrangements.

The meeting included a briefing on the plan to dissolve the PWD, the implementation of ongoing projects, alternative arrangements, and outsourcing construction and repair work to private companies.

It was informed that ongoing PWD projects would be completed by relevant federal and provincial departments, with no new projects assigned to PWD. Future construction and repair work would be outsourced to private companies of international standards.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed that the interests of PWD employees be protected during the dissolution process and a comprehensive plan be formulated for their welfare. He emphasized the need to expedite the closure of PWD, stating he would personally monitor the process.

Additionally, he ordered the formation of an asset management company to handle PWD’s assets and digitize its records.

Federal ministers Muhammad Aurangzeb, Riaz Hussain Pirzada, Ahsan Iqbal, and Ahad Khan Cheema, along with Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Jehanzeb Khan and other relevant officials, attended the meeting.
