A group of Indian nationals vandalized a restaurant in Sheffield, England, and harassed its staff over allegations of serving beef, it was reported on Sunday.
Locals have described the incident as a troubling act of religious intolerance, raising concerns about communal harmony in the city.
Although the altercation occurred several months ago, it recently garnered widespread attention after a video of the incident went viral on social media, sparking outrage and condemnation.
The restaurant owner, Rahimullah Khan, recounted the ordeal in an interview with Geo News, providing insights into the events.
“Indian nationals came to the restaurant under the influence of alcohol,” Khan said. “After dining, they created a scene at the counter, accusing us of mixing lamb with beef.”
He clarified that the management informed the group that beef was not part of the menu. However, the situation escalated when the individuals attacked a staff member and caused significant damage to the restaurant’s glass and property.
Local police intervened and arrested those responsible for the disturbance. The owner confirmed that an inquiry into the incident is ongoing.
The Sheffield community has expressed concern over the event, with residents and community leaders condemning it as an alarming example of religious intolerance.
