LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced Pakistan’s first initiative to provide free insulin to children with Type-1 diabetes.
"Children are like delicate flowers; they must not be allowed to wither," she stated while launching the Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Insulin Program, which aims to deliver free insulin directly to the homes of diabetic children. Registration for the program has already begun.
She highlighted the establishment of a special helpline (1033) to assist applicants. Families can also visit NCD clinics in their tehsil or district to access free insulin services. "As a mother, I deeply understand the pain of sick children," she added. "This initiative will ease the burden on parents by ensuring children receive lifelong insulin without frequent hospital visits. All necessary resources will be allocated for this cause across Punjab."
Sindh Culture Day Message
In a special message, Maryam Nawaz congratulated the people of Sindh on Sindh Culture Day, honoring their rich heritage. "Warm greetings from Punjab to our hardworking and hospitable Sindhi brothers and sisters. The Sindhi Ajrak, Sindhi topi, and their vibrant music and poetry enrich Pakistan's cultural landscape. The ancient Sindhi culture stands as a symbol of diversity and beauty."
World AIDS Day Statement
On World AIDS Day, the Chief Minister emphasized the collective responsibility to combat AIDS, describing it as a significant social and economic challenge. "Our goal is to support AIDS patients through treatment and guidance, turning them into productive citizens. They deserve compassion, not discrimination," she stressed.
She also called for eliminating inequalities in access to AIDS prevention, testing, and treatment. "The efforts of community organizations fighting AIDS are commendable. We are enforcing strict SOPs for AIDS screening during dialysis across Punjab, and legal actions have been taken against violations in Multan. These steps will help us achieve our goal of eradicating AIDS."
