ISLAMABAD: Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Ahmad Ishaq Jahangir, has dismissed 35 officials for their involvement in facilitating human smuggling networks and failing to perform their duties effectively.

The terminated personnel include four inspectors, 10 sub-inspectors, two assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs), five head constables, and 14 constables, according to a statement from the DG’s office.

Additionally, legal proceedings have been initiated against 13 of these officials for their direct links to human trafficking activities.

In response to directives from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the FIA has intensified its crackdown on officials implicated in human trafficking, particularly following recent boat tragedies that drew widespread attention. Under the leadership of Ahmad Ishaq Jahangir, the agency has adopted stringent measures to ensure accountability and eradicate corruption within its ranks.

During a recent disciplinary review meeting, the DG evaluated cases against 49 officials accused of negligence or collusion with human smuggling networks. Emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy, Jahangir stated:
"There is no place in the FIA for those complicit in these tragedies. Internal accountability is vital to cleanse the organization of corrupt elements and deliver justice to the victims of human trafficking."

He further stressed that holding officials accountable is crucial to dismantling smuggling networks, restoring public trust, and preventing future tragedies.

The FIA is committed to ongoing action against personnel exploiting innocent citizens. Officials found guilty of misconduct or illegal activities will face severe penalties.

This crackdown follows a series of high-profile incidents involving human smuggling, which have attracted international scrutiny. The government’s firm stance underscores its dedication to addressing systemic issues within the agency and safeguarding lives.

Through these reforms, the FIA aims to rebuild its reputation as a transparent and trustworthy institution, sending a strong message that negligence and corruption will not be tolerated.
