**ISLAMABAD:** Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday stated that the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would play a pivotal role in transforming Pakistan's economy.

Speaking at an event hosted by the Chinese Embassy to mark China's 75th anniversary, PM Shehbaz said: "We are now entering the second phase of CPEC, which holds vast potential for collaboration in agriculture, information technology, mining, and many other key sectors of mutual interest."

The Prime Minister congratulated the Chinese government and its people, highlighting China’s emergence as a global power and an indispensable partner in international affairs.

"The friendship between Pakistan and China is higher than the Himalayas and deeper than the oceans," he remarked.

The event was attended by President Asif Ali Zardari, federal ministers, diplomats, dignitaries, and senior civil and military officials.

PM Shehbaz also acknowledged China's significant support during negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He underscored the need for Pakistan to develop various sectors such as agriculture and industry to ensure long-term prosperity and growth.

He further emphasized that the Pakistan-China partnership not only fosters regional development and peace but also contributes to global stability and progress, in line with President Xi Jinping’s vision.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s backing for China on international issues, including matters related to Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Expressing gratitude for the warm reception he received during his recent visit to China, he described the Pakistan-China relationship as "indestructible and inseparable."

PM Shehbaz also expressed eagerness to welcome the Chinese Premier, who is expected to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Council of Heads of Government (SCO CHG) meeting in Islamabad.

At the "China’s National Day Reception," President Asif Ali Zardari reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to working with China to promote shared prosperity and global peace.

Focusing on CPEC, President Zardari said the high-quality development of the project would "unlock greater benefits for our people and enhance connectivity and prosperity across the region."

He conveyed warm felicitations to the Chinese people on the occasion of their National Day, emphasizing that October 1st symbolized the rebirth of a strong, united China, achieved through the heroic efforts of its people under the leadership of the Communist Party.

President Zardari reflected on the generations of contributions that have solidified Pakistan-China friendship, evolving into a robust, all-weather strategic cooperative partnership.

He described China as an "iron-clad brother" of Pakistan, noting the pride the Pakistani nation takes in this enduring relationship, particularly as both countries have supported each other through challenging times.

Looking ahead, President Zardari expressed optimism about China's future achievements, which he believes will not only bolster its own development but also reshape global politics, economics, and culture in positive ways.
