1. ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Friday imposed a ban on the purchase of petrol motorcycles in the federal capital Islamabad.

During a recent meeting at the Capital Development Authority (CDA), key decisions were made to advance ongoing development projects in Islamabad. The interior minister directed the CDA to purchase only electric bikes in the future to combat environmental pollution. Additionally, eco-friendly electric buses will be introduced for public transport in the city.

The meeting reviewed progress on several projects, including the refurbishment of the Federal Secretariat, enhancements to the Diplomatic Enclave, and the implementation of smart parking solutions. Interior Minister Naqvi emphasized the goal of transforming Islamabad into a world-class city, with a strong focus on environmental measures such as electric bikes and buses.

Furthermore, the responsibilities for international standard emergency services will be transferred from the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) to the CDA. Naqvi also announced the imminent commencement of construction work on the Serena Chowk underpass and the F-9 Park Chowk flyover projects.

The Islamabad Model Jail project, which had been stalled for 17 years, is now progressing swiftly, with the first phase expected to be completed on schedule. Additionally, the process of allotting land for the construction of a Health Tower in the H-16 sector has been completed.

The meeting concluded with Naqvi congratulating the CDA team for their record tax collection and urging them to enhance institutional assets beyond merely selling plots and land.
