T20 World Cup 2024: How can Pakistan still qualify for Super 8 now?

Pakistan's situation in the T20 World Cup 2024 has become precarious after suffering consecutive defeats. They now rely not only on victories in their next two matches but also on the outcomes of other teams' performances to progress to the Super Eight stage.

In Group A, consisting of India, the US, Canada, Ireland, and Pakistan, only two teams will advance past the group stage. Currently, Pakistan has zero points after losses to the US and India. India and the US lead the group with four points each from their previous two victories.

To keep their tournament hopes alive, Pakistan must win their next two matches against Ireland and Canada. Additionally, they need the US to lose their next two games against India and Ireland. However, even with these victories, Pakistan's progression will depend on having a better net run rate (NRR) than the US. If the US wins just one more match, Pakistan's chances of advancing will be eliminated regardless of their own results.

The defeats Pakistan faced were narrow and heartbreaking. They lost the match against the US in a thrilling Super Over and fell short by six runs against India despite restricting them to a modest total of 119. In the game against India, Jasprit Bumrah's impressive bowling (3-14 in four overs) played a crucial role, leaving Pakistan just shy of the target with a final score of 113-7.

In the match against the US, the Super Over saw the hosts scoring 18-1, while Pakistan could only manage 13-1 in response, resulting in a five-run defeat at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas.
