T20 World Cup 2024: 'Major surgery needed,' says PCB chief after India drubbing

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi expressed disappointment with the performance of the Pakistani cricket team following their loss against India, stating that it indicates the need for a "major surgery" within the team.

Speaking to journalists after the Pakistan vs India match at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, Naqvi described the defeat as "disappointing in every sense." Despite an impressive bowling performance that restricted India to 119 runs after winning the toss, Pakistan suffered a humiliating loss, falling short by six runs.

Naqvi emphasized that he is aware of the issues within the team and the reasons behind their loss. He initially thought minor adjustments would suffice but now believes that a major overhaul is necessary. He mentioned the need to prepare for upcoming events like the Champions Trophy 2025 and stressed the importance of incorporating external talent into the team.

Regarding Pakistan's batting performance, Naqvi criticized the team's irresponsibility and described their approach as reckless. The batting lineup failed to chase down the modest target of 120 runs, ultimately finishing at 113 for 7. This defeat has left Pakistan with limited options and uncertainty regarding their qualification for the next stage of the tournament.

Despite Mohammad Rizwan's patient innings of 31, Pakistan lost wickets at regular intervals, with Jasprit Bumrah's crucial bowling contributing to their downfall. With zero points from two defeats, Pakistan faces a challenging road ahead in the tournament.
