1. QUETTA: The central moon sighting body will meet today in Quetta for the sighting of Muharram crescent — the beginning of new Islamic calendar.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, is set to meet to observe the sighting of the Muharram moon. Concurrently, zonal committees in Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, and Peshawar will hold their meetings on the same day for the same purpose.

However, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has stated that the Muharram moon is unlikely to be seen today. According to a statement issued by the PMD on June 20, the new moon of Muharram will be born at the crossing conjunction point at 03:57 PST on July 6. Based on astronomical calculations, there is no chance of sighting the new moon on the evening of July 6, which corresponds to the 29th of Zilhij 1445 AH.

Additionally, the PMD forecasts partly cloudy to cloudy weather in most parts of the country, which may further hinder the visibility of the moon.
