ISLAMABAD: On Monday, Islamabad police arrested Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sher Afzal Marwat outside Parliament House. The arrest followed his resistance, during which Marwat demanded to see a warrant.

According to the police, PTI leaders Omar Ayub Khan and Zartaj Gul Wazir are also slated for arrest. In response, heavy police contingents were stationed around the parliament, with all entry and exit points to the Red Zone sealed off, including routes at D-Chowk, Nadra Chowk, Serena, and Marriott, except for Margala Road.

PTI MNA Ali Muhammad Khan, however, was not detained by the authorities when he left the parliament.

Marwat’s arrest was linked to violations under the newly implemented Peaceful Assembly and Public Order Bill, 2024. Sources revealed that he was accused of clashing with police the previous day.

In addition to Omar and Zartaj, more PTI leaders are also expected to be taken into custody, including Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Hammad Azhar, Kanwal Shauzab, Naeem Haider Panjutha, Amir Mughal, and Khalid Khursheed, according to sources. The police are reportedly planning a broader crackdown on PTI leaders from Punjab who participated in the recent rally.

It was also reported that Islamabad police had formally notified Punjab officials regarding these actions. Separately, Shoaib Shaheen was arrested from his residence.
