MARDAN: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Saturday emphasized the need for dialogue over political confrontation to resolve national issues, while terming the February 8 general elections the most rigged in the country’s history.

Speaking to reporters, he strongly criticized the government, claiming its formation was the result of widespread electoral rigging. “Today is a dark day, and this government has been established through rigging,” he stated. He further asserted that the JUI-F stood alone in fighting for the 26th Constitutional Amendment, which he described as crucial for protecting the Constitution, parliament, and citizens’ rights.

Fazlur Rehman also voiced concerns over delays in implementing the Madaris Act across various provinces.

Accusing the government of depriving people, particularly the poor, of their rights, he dismissed claims of economic stability, warning that inflation would rise further next year while GDP would decline.

“We have joined the opposition in the assemblies because we are committed to fighting for the people’s rights,” he asserted. “No one has the right to violate the rights of the people.”

Reiterating his stance that the election process was manipulated to install a government in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Fazlur Rehman vowed to continue challenging what he called an “illegitimate” setup through democratic means.
