SEOUL: North Korea launched multiple short-range ballistic missiles off its east coast on Thursday, marking its first missile test in over two months, according to South Korea's military.

Japan's Coast Guard confirmed that a projectile, believed to be a North Korean ballistic missile, had fallen into the sea. There were no reports of damage, according to Japan's Kyodo news agency, citing government sources.

North Korea's last missile launch was on July 1, when it claimed to have successfully tested a new tactical ballistic missile capable of carrying a 4.5-ton "super-large" warhead.

In recent days, North Korea has also been sending balloons filled with trash across the border into South Korea, a retaliatory move that began in May after South Korean activists sent anti-Pyongyang leaflets into the North using inflatables.
