New WhatsApp feature will revolutionise users' video playing experience
1. Meta-owned instant messaging app's latest update offers exciting video playback options for users
WhatsApp is gearing up to enhance its users' video playback experience with new and exciting features currently being tested.
The latest update for WhatsApp on iOS, version 24.20.78, now available for download from the App Store, introduces adjustable playback speeds for videos. Users can choose from three options: normal, fast (1.5x), and faster (2.0x), as reported by WABetaInfo. This feature allows users to customize their viewing experience based on their preferences and time constraints, enabling them to speed up longer videos to save time.
The speed control option is conveniently located next to the progress bar for easy access.
Additionally, the official changelog highlights a widely rolled-out picture-in-picture feature for videos. This allows users to resize the video window and move it around the screen using a button positioned next to the playback bar. With picture-in-picture mode enabled, users can continue chatting, sending messages, or browsing other chats and apps while the video plays in the corner of their screen. The picture-in-picture window also includes essential playback controls such as skip forward, skip backward, and pause.
Excitingly, this feature is expected to be compatible with iOS 14 and later versions, as the necessary Application Programming Interface (API) has been available to developers since iOS 14.
If users don't see these features immediately, they should note that they may roll out to some accounts in the coming weeks, as indicated in the official changelog. Users are encouraged to regularly update WhatsApp through the App Store and TestFlight app to ensure they receive these enhancements.
