Imran sees 'positivity' in Trump win, says Biden's 'negativity' could ease: PTI leader
1. Trump's win will bring positivity and potential neutralisation of Biden-era "negativity", says Ali Muhammad Khan
PTI leader Ali Muhammad Khan shared that Imran Khan, the party’s founder, is optimistic about Donald Trump’s recent presidential victory over Kamala Harris in the United States. Imran believes Trump’s return could reduce the "negativity" toward Pakistan that, according to Ali, intensified under Biden’s administration.
During an appearance, Ali recounted that upon learning of Trump’s win, Imran reflected on the positive relations between Pakistan and the U.S. during Trump’s first term, contrasting this with what he described as interference and hostility under Biden. PTI has long alleged that the U.S. was involved in Imran’s ouster as prime minister in April 2022, with Ali citing Imran’s claim of increased “interference in Pakistan’s domestic affairs” during Biden’s tenure.
Trump’s recent win came after a contentious campaign marked by two attempts on his life and Kamala Harris’s late entry into the race following Biden’s surprise withdrawal. Ali noted that PTI’s overseas supporters see Trump’s return as beneficial for Imran’s political position, hoping it could ease both political and diplomatic challenges.
“There will be an impact once Trump’s administration takes charge,” Ali remarked, suggesting that Trump’s allies might bring a positive shift. PTI’s overseas members, who have campaigned for Imran’s release, believe that Trump’s leadership could alleviate some of the pressures Imran faced under Biden.
Ali emphasized Imran’s commitment to staying in Pakistan and facing any legal restrictions from the government, stating that with impartiality from state institutions, the political climate could improve.
Meanwhile, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif asserted that the government doesn’t expect Trump to advocate for Imran’s release. “Let’s wait for 15 to 20 days and see what stance he takes,” Asif said.
PTI leader Raoof Hasan added that the party never counted on Trump’s win to secure Imran’s release, emphasizing they rely on support from Pakistan’s judiciary, parliament, and public protests.
