Josh O'Connor recently opened up about the “very strange” experience of filming intimate scenes with co-star Zendaya for their film *Challengers*.
In a new interview for *Vanity Fair’s* Hollywood issue, the 34-year-old actor shared his thoughts on shooting these scenes, describing them as “the least sexy thing in the world” due to their highly choreographed and rehearsed nature.
“A sex scene is a very strange thing,” O’Connor explained, noting how unromantic the process can be. “It might look sexy onscreen, but in reality, it’s similar to a fight sequence or a dance. It’s a very choreographed, rehearsed thing, and you’re surrounded by a room full of people—someone’s holding a boom microphone, there are cameras and lights everywhere.”
Reflecting on the vulnerability required, the *Crown* star added, “Being intimate with another actor is more revealing and scarier, as it often requires reaching for emotions that can feel hidden or blocked, and that can be intimidating.”
For those unfamiliar, *Challengers* stars O’Connor as the ex-boyfriend of Zendaya’s character, alongside Mike Faist. The tennis drama was released in theaters on April 26, 2024.
