"Islamabad Court Reserves Verdict on Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi's Sentence Suspension in Iddat Case"

A district and sessions court in Islamabad has reserved its decision on petitions filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi, seeking suspension of their sentence in the iddat case. Earlier this month, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) had instructed the district court to decide on the suspension pleas within 10 days. The court has also been given a month to decide on the couple's appeal against their conviction.

Today's reserved verdict is scheduled to be announced on June 27 at 3 pm. The hearing on their appeals seeking annulment of their conviction has been adjourned till July 2. The case revolves around challenges to the validity of their marriage during Bushra's iddat period, initially brought forth by her ex-husband Khawar Maneka.

In February, a trial court sentenced the couple to seven years in prison and imposed a fine of Rs500,000 each. They subsequently filed multiple appeals, including those seeking to overturn their conviction and suspend their sentences.
