Defense Minister Khawaja Asif assured on Tuesday that the federal government would address Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) concerns regarding the newly announced anti-militancy operation, Azm-e-Istehkam.

Speaking at a press conference in Lahore, the minister stated that the proposal for launching the operation would be presented to the federal cabinet today and subsequently to parliament. He emphasized the government's commitment to achieving consensus among all political parties and allies, ensuring adequate time for discussions to address their queries satisfactorily.

Last week, the government unveiled its plan for a comprehensive counter-terrorism operation, leveraging military, diplomatic, and legislative resources to combat militants. However, the announcement faced opposition from PTI, Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam Fazl (JUI-F), Awami National Party (ANP), and others, who insisted on parliamentary consultation and expressed reservations.

Responding to criticism, the Prime Minister's Office clarified that Azm-e-Istehkam aimed at enduring stability, distinct from earlier kinetic operations like Zarb-e-Azb and Rah-e-Najaat.

Minister Asif highlighted the evolving security landscape since the National Action Plan post-Army Public School attack, emphasizing the government's control over former conflict zones in FATA, Balochistan, and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

He acknowledged past displacements due to military operations but assured that the current strategy would focus on intelligence-based actions. Asif underscored the necessity of institutional support and financial contributions from provinces for the operation's success.

Regarding regional efforts, he mentioned discussions in Afghanistan to address mutual terrorism concerns, noting challenges despite Kabul's cooperation.

In conclusion, Minister Asif urged political parties to prioritize national interests over electoral gains and affirmed the operation's apolitical nature in combating terrorism effectively.
