The tragic accident in Farooqabad city near Pandour village, Sheikhupura, highlights a recurring issue of road safety in Punjab. On late Monday night, a speeding vehicle collided with a motorcycle carrying six members of the same family, resulting in the deaths of five individuals: Shahzad (26), Fiza (10), Mehak (8), Faizan (12), and Sufyan (6). The lone survivor, 15-year-old Noor, sustained injuries and is the niece of the deceased man.

The family was traveling from Amar Sadhu to Gujjar Pura in Lahore to visit relatives for Eid ul Adha. Rescue 1122 officials attributed the accident to excessive speed. The victims were transported to a hospital for medico-legal procedures and treatment.

This incident is part of a larger pattern of road accidents in Punjab, often due to poor driving skills, lack of safety measures, overcrowded vehicles, and inadequate road infrastructure. For instance, just a day before this accident, five people died and 14 were injured when an overloaded truck overturned near Khairpur.

Improving road safety in Punjab requires addressing these critical issues to prevent such tragedies in the future.
