**LAHORE:** Cambridge International Education (CIE) has announced the cancellation of the leaked AS Level Mathematics paper and will not mark students on it, The News reported on Saturday.

Students will receive marks based on their performance in the second AS Level Mathematics paper and other exams, according to a statement issued by CIE.

The decision follows the leak of the AS-Level Mathematics paper on May 2, which circulated on social media, particularly Facebook.

The leak had left students uncertain about the potential cancellation of the paper and its impact on their marks.

"We are looking into concerns raised about a potential paper leakage on 02 May 2024 for AS Level Mathematics 9709 Paper 12. This is being investigated, and Cambridge and the British Council are in close communication," CIE had initially stated in response to the situation.

Expressing concerns over the leak, CIE UK assured that students would be marked fairly to prevent any disadvantage.

In an email to school heads, the Cambridge administration revealed that, after reviewing evidence from multiple sources, they concluded that a significant number of students in Pakistan had seen the paper before the exam.

"Our priority is to ensure fairness for the majority of students who did not cheat. This means ensuring those who cheated receive no advantage so that students applying to university compete on an equal basis. We have reviewed evidence from multiple sources and concluded that this specific paper was seen by a significant number of students in Pakistan before the start of the exam," CIE stated.

Additionally, students who wish to retake the exam can do so in November without paying the examination fee.

Exam leaks are a recurring issue in Pakistan, with previous incidents involving matric examination papers circulating online before exams. Earlier this year, Physics and Computer Science papers were leaked in Karachi shortly before the exams commenced.
