Balochistan requests suspension of mobile services on Nov 13, 14
1. Move aimed at maintaining law and order during by-election, says home department
**QUETTA:** In preparation for the upcoming by-election in Balochistan’s PB-8 constituency, the Balochistan Home Department has requested the Ministry of Interior to suspend mobile phone services in the Sibi and Kachhi districts from November 13 to 14.
This measure is aimed at ensuring law and order during the election period, as outlined in a letter sent by the home department to the interior ministry.
The by-election for PB-8 is scheduled for November 14, with authorities taking precautionary steps to maintain a secure and orderly voting process. In addition to the mobile service suspension, the department has also recommended temporarily shutting down PTCL services in the region.
The Ministry of Interior has not yet confirmed whether it will act on these recommendations.
The by-election follows the death of Balochistan’s municipal minister, Sardar Sarfaraz Chakar Domki, who passed away in September in Karachi after a prolonged illness. Domki, a prominent leader and chief of the Domki tribe, was elected to the Balochistan Assembly from PB-8 as a candidate of the Pakistan Peoples Party-Parliamentarians (PPP-P), securing over 27,000 votes in the last election.
The by-election will decide Domki’s successor for the PB-8 seat.
