Another judge turns down offer as JCP meets to appoint ad hoc judges
1. Justice (retd) Miankhel has decided not to accept offer due to personal reasons, say sources
Justice (retired) Mazhar Alam Miankhel has declined an offer to become an ad hoc judge of the Supreme Court, joining Justices Mushir Alam and Maqbool Baqar in rejecting the proposal. This decision comes amid efforts by the Supreme Court to address a backlog of cases by appointing four ad hoc judges for a three-year term.
The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) met to discuss these appointments, considering Justices Sardar Tariq Masood, Mushir Alam, Maqbool Baqar, and Mazhar Alam Miankhel. Miankhel declined the offer due to personal reasons. This move follows opposition from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), which raised concerns about the judiciary's independence. PTI's Omar Ayub urged the JCP to reject the appointments, suggesting that the process should involve parliamentary scrutiny to ensure transparency and independence.
