Sher Afzal Marwat tries to clarify confusion over D-Chowk decision
1. Marwat says KP CM was upset as he did not want to proceed beyond the Kulsoom Hospital limit
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Sher Afzal Marwat has revealed that PTI founder Imran Khan made the decision to avoid staging a protest at Sangjani, even though Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur was against advancing toward D-Chowk in Islamabad.
Marwat highlighted internal divisions within PTI following the party's failed "do-or-die" protest. He noted that Gandapur was particularly upset about moving beyond the Kulsoom Hospital area and was firmly opposed to marching past Chungi Number 26 toward D-Chowk.
Marwat also addressed criticism directed at Imran Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, and Gandapur over their roles in the protest. Despite reports that Bushra Bibi insisted on advancing to D-Chowk, Marwat clarified that the party's initial decision was to head there. According to him, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Barrister Saif had visited Imran Khan at Adiala Jail to discuss the government's offer to hold a demonstration at Sangjani. However, Marwat said Gohar informed him afterward that Imran was not willing to accept the Sangjani proposal, refuting claims that Bushra Bibi was solely responsible for the decision.
"The KP chief minister expressed his concerns and visited Bushra Bibi’s vehicle twice during the march," Marwat said, adding that he was unaware of any direct arguments between the two.
The protest ultimately exposed PTI workers to a security crackdown, leading to widespread criticism within the party. Marwat described the disarray during the event, noting that power to the leaders’ container was cut off, with no technicians available to resolve the issue. He also pointed out a lack of clear instructions for party workers, which further contributed to the chaos.
