Rohit Sharma Follows in Virat's Footsteps, Retires from T20Is After WC Win

India's captain Rohit Sharma has announced his retirement from T20 international cricket following his team's victory in the T20 World Cup 2024, held in Barbados. This marks India's second T20 World Cup win under his leadership.
During the post-match press conference, Rohit disclosed his decision, mirroring Virat Kohli's earlier retirement announcement.
"This was my last [T20I] game as well. There couldn't be a better time to bid farewell to this format. I've cherished every moment of it," Rohit said. "I began my career with T20Is and winning this World Cup was a dream come true for me."
Rohit exits as the format's highest scorer with 4231 runs in 159 matches, including a record five centuries. His T20I career began with India's inaugural World Cup win in 2007 as a player and culminates with another triumph as captain in 2024.
Both Rohit and Kohli's retirements from T20Is were anticipated, as neither had played any T20Is after India's 2022 World Cup semi-final loss, resuming only in January 2024 with an eye on the 2024 T20 World Cup.
During his captaincy, Rohit led in 62 matches, scoring 1905 runs at a strike rate of 149.76 and an average of 34.01, with a remarkable 49 victories.
