In Islamabad, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party has voiced its firm opposition to any potential constitutional amendments the government may propose. The PTI walked out of the recent parliamentary session in protest as lawmakers voted on the controversial 26th Constitutional Amendment.

PTI leaders argue that the amendment could enable political meddling in the judiciary, particularly in the process for appointing the chief justice and other Supreme Court judges, thereby giving parliament undue power over the judiciary.

This announcement follows reports from Geo News indicating that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto discussed a possible “27th constitutional amendment.”

During an appearance on Geo News’ program *Geo Pakistan*, PTI’s Sheikh Waqas Akram stated, “Whether it’s the 27th or the 28th amendment, the PTI will oppose it.”

Akram further criticized the government, asserting that its actions, such as conducting house raids on PTI lawmakers and allegedly detaining PTI supporters, indicate its lack of confidence.

"We are a political party and are open to criticism, but why is there a call for consensus only when PTI is involved?" he questioned.

Akram also defended Bushra Bibi, saying she has no political aspirations, emphasizing that the PTI founder has decided against involving family members in politics.

He underscored that PTI’s primary focus is on securing the release of its leader, adding, "When a wife stands by her husband or sisters for their brother, it’s not politics."

Responding to reports about Faisal Chaudhry’s removal from PTI's legal team, Akram clarified that Salman Akram Raja now heads PTI’s legal committee. He expressed his respect for Chaudhry, adding, “Faisal has not been hired for Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi's cases.”

In a recent TV interview, Chaudhry mentioned that he had filed a petition on instructions from PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan. "If I am effective, I’ll stay; otherwise, the client can choose another lawyer," he remarked.
