**ISLAMABAD:** Sardar Akhtar Mengal, the chief of the Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M), has expressed concerns over the mistreatment of his party members, alleging that his lodges in Islamabad were raided.

In a post on X late Wednesday night, Mengal claimed that BNP-M senator Naseema Ehsan was confined to her apartment and that her son had been "abducted." He also shared a media report detailing the police raid at his lodges, a claim that the Islamabad Police later denied.

BNP-M Acting President Sajid Tareen, currently staying at Mengal's apartment, recounted that the police arrived, citing intelligence reports regarding the residents of the apartment.

Terming the police action a form of harassment, Tareen stated he challenged the police to have those who provided the tip come and speak to him directly.

“I am not afraid of such tactics. Their concern is that I am committed to ensuring that our party senators vote according to our party's position on the Constitutional Court Package without succumbing to external pressure,” he added.

Meanwhile, an Islamabad Police spokesperson clarified that they did not conduct a raid on Mengal's flat but rather sought more information related to Tareen's complaint about feeling followed.

“The police's visit to Akhtar Mengal's residence has been mischaracterized as a raid, which is not accurate,” the spokesperson stated.

Earlier, Mengal had announced his resignation from the assembly, citing the treatment of Balochistan as a key factor. Despite this, he claimed that harassment of his two senators and their families persisted, leaving him with no choice but to consider asking the senators to resign. "You’ve left us with no other option," he remarked.

On September 3, Mengal resigned from the lower house of parliament, citing the "worsening situation" in Balochistan and declaring his lack of confidence in the state, the president, and the prime minister.

"I announce my resignation from the Assembly today [Tuesday]. This decision comes after witnessing the dire situation in Balochistan," he stated during a National Assembly session.

Expressing regret over his inability to assist the people of his province, Mengal lamented that they had not been afforded the right to govern for a year and expressed a general distrust in the system.
