Petrol, widely used in private transport, small vehicles, rickshaws, and motorcycles, plays a crucial role in daily commutes. Any price increase significantly impacts middle- and lower-middle-class households. Meanwhile, high-speed diesel, which powers heavy vehicles, agricultural machinery, and other essential transport, affects the cost of essential goods like food items due to its role in logistics.

In the previous price review, the government had raised petrol prices by Rs1.35 per litre and diesel by Rs3.85 per litre, surpassing market expectations.
