Before concluding his five-day visit to China, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Saturday that Pakistan would send 1,000 students to China for advanced training in the agriculture sector.

The announcement was made during PM Shehbaz's visit to the Yangling Agricultural Demonstration Base in Xi'an, China, according to Radio Pakistan.

During the visit, PM Shehbaz invited China’s North West Agriculture and Forestry University to open a campus in Pakistan and instructed Pakistan's ambassador to China and relevant authorities to finalize arrangements with Chinese officials.

The prime minister toured various parts of the Yangling facility, viewed Pakistani products at the Pakistan Pavilion, and observed a demonstration of vertical farming at the modern plant production factory.

“Pakistan is striving to modernize its agriculture sector to increase per acre yield of crops. Increasing agricultural exports is one of our topmost priorities,” PM Shehbaz told Chinese officials.

The prime minister was briefed on the workings of the Yangling Base, which collaborates with 26 countries in agricultural research, with Pakistan being the first to participate. He also learned about the involvement of Pakistani universities and scientists in research at the base.

PM Shehbaz later returned to Pakistan with his high-level delegation.

During his visit, the prime minister met with Chinese leadership, authorities, businessmen, and investor companies. The visit was made at the invitation of Li Qiang, Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China.
