Details reveal the induction of 40 high-capacity wagons, locally manufactured with the aid of Chinese technology, into the PR fleet.

Aamir Baloch, CEO of Pakistan Railways, spearheaded the inauguration of these wagons.

Engineered to international standards, these high-capacity wagons boast the capability to transport loads of up to 70 tonnes at speeds of 100 kilometers per hour.

Baloch announced plans to add 820 more wagons to the railways’ fleet by the conclusion of FY2025-26. The local production of freight wagons is expected to bolster foreign reserves and generate an additional yearly income of Rs9 billion.

In other news, PR recently announced a significant reduction in train fares, slashing prices by 25% to accommodate passengers during the Eidul Adha 2024 celebrations. This reduction applies to all passenger trains, excluding Eid special trains, for a three-day period.

Expressing delight over the fare reduction, a Pakistan Railways spokesperson affirmed their commitment to serving the people of Pakistan.

The discounted fares are applicable only for current bookings.

This move follows a previous announcement in May 2024, where Pakistan Railways reduced train fares across various classes.
