Miley Cyrus lands in legal trouble for copying Bruno Mars
1. 'Flowers' hitmaker Miley Cyrus sued for allegedly copying Bruno Mars' ballad 'When I Was Your Man'
Miley Cyrus is facing a lawsuit over allegations that her Grammy-winning song "Flowers" copied elements from Bruno Mars' 2012 ballad "When I Was Your Man." Tempo Music Investments, which claims to hold a portion of the copyright for Mars' track, has taken legal action against Cyrus, citing numerous musical similarities between the two songs, including parallels in the chorus, harmony, melody, chord progressions, and lyrics, which they allege were "intentionally" copied.
Notably, Bruno Mars himself is not listed as a plaintiff in the lawsuit.
The lawsuit follows Cyrus's recent Grammy win, where "Flowers" was awarded Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance, surpassing competitors like Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish. During her acceptance speech, Cyrus praised the award but emphasized her contentment with her life, saying, “This award is amazing, but I really hope that it doesn’t change anything, because my life was beautiful yesterday.” She added, “Not everyone in the world will get a Grammy, but everyone in this world is spectacular, so please don’t think that this is important.”
