Messi and Suarez to miss MLS All-Star Game due to injuries
1. It was supposed to be Messi's debut MLS All-Star game since he joined Inter Miami
Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez of Inter Miami will not participate in the MLS match scheduled for tomorrow due to injuries, according to a statement from the league and the club. The MLS roster for the game against the Mexican Football All Stars in Columbus, Ohio, excludes Messi and Suarez among others.
Messi is recovering from a right ankle injury sustained during the Copa America final against Colombia, which kept him out of two MLS matches last week. Suarez, who recently rejoined the team after more than 40 days of national team duty, is also sidelined due to knee pain.
This match was anticipated to be Messi's debut MLS All-Star game since joining Inter Miami in July last year. Messi, a record eight-time Ballon d'Or winner and Argentine international who played in the 2022 World Cup, led Miami to victory in the Leagues Cup last year, a competition involving MLS and Mexican league teams.
Inter Miami has also indicated that Messi and Suarez are doubtful for the Saturday home game against Mexico's Puebla, which marks the beginning of their Leagues Cup title defense. The availability of these players will depend on their recovery process on that day.
