Luke Newton and Nicola Coughlan's steamy carriage scene in Bridgerton Season 3 has garnered significant attention. In a recent interview with PEOPLE, the actors shared insights into their approach to portraying the romance between their characters, Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington.

Newton highlighted the importance of authenticity in their performances, emphasizing their aim to stay true to the characters' established relationship. "We just wanted to honor that because people have a lot of love for their relationship, and we wanted to keep it really true to that," he explained. He mentioned that they had discussions about their characters' first intimate encounter, including consultations with the intimacy coordinator to determine the scene's intensity.

Coughlan echoed Newton's sentiments, expressing that the intimacy in this season feels very real and grounded. She appreciated how their characters, who are initially awkward around each other, navigate intimacy in a realistic and beautiful way. "In those intimate moments, they find moments to laugh and you see them figuring it out and doing it together, and I love it," she recalled.
