Providing affordable and accessible healthcare for all has become a major priority for many low- and middle-income countries through advancing Universal Health Coverage (UHC). Achieving UHC requires each country to develop a strategy tailored to its unique context, while adhering to universal principles. The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has made consistent progress towards expanding healthcare access for its population.

To further this goal, the Health Department of KP is developing a UHC implementation roadmap. This roadmap is essential to identify and address gaps in UHC implementation, offering a consolidated and strategic direction for UHC reforms in the province. The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) is supporting the KP government in strengthening its health system, including the improved implementation of UHC, through its technical assistance program, Evidence for Health (E4H).

Led by Dr. Zafar Mirza, former Special Advisor to the Prime Minister on Health, the E4H team is working on developing a strategic UHC implementation roadmap for KP. A consultative workshop was organized in Peshawar to gather input from relevant stakeholders on the draft roadmap. The framework for action aims to achieve UHC in KP through a comprehensive health system approach that benefits the entire population.
