Karla Sofía Gascón has responded to the controversy surrounding her past posts on X (formerly Twitter), including her comments about her Emilia Pérez co-star Selena Gomez.

On February 1, the 52-year-old actress posted a heartfelt message on Instagram, apologizing and seeking forgiveness, while defending herself against critics who she believes are trying to "stain my existence with lies." Gascón had previously issued an apology for some of her controversial posts, which have since been deleted, addressing issues like diversity, Muslim culture, and the George Floyd incident.

"THEY ALREADY WON. The first thing I’d like to do is ask for the most sincere forgiveness from those who feel hurt by how I’ve expressed myself at any point in my life," Gascón wrote in Spanish, as translated by Variety.

She continued, acknowledging her flaws, particularly her approach to learning, stating, "Life has taught me something I never wanted to learn: it’s clear to me that no matter how much my message is mine, without using the proper words, [the message] can turn into something else."

The post was accompanied by an image of a Nichiren Buddhism symbol, which Gascón practices, and the words, "As with Emilia Pérez: We can all do better. Me too."

Reflecting on her career rise, Gascón added, "I have gone from living a normal life to one at the top of my profession in just six months. Now, my responsibility is very great because my voice no longer belongs to me alone, but to many people who feel represented and hopeful by or with me."

She also addressed her 2022 post on X about Gomez, where she referred to her co-star as a "rich rat" and commented on her alleged conflict with Hailey Bieber. In the post, Gascón wrote, "She's a rich rat who plays the poor b------ whenever she can and will never stop bothering her ex-boyfriend and his wife."

Defending herself, Gascón pointed out, "They have created posts as if I were insulting even my colleagues."

She concluded by criticizing the way her words had been twisted: "Things I wrote to glorify were turned into criticisms, jokes were made to seem like reality, words that, without context, only appeared as hate. All of this, just to see me fail and be dragged down."
