Karachi weather update: Mercury likely to jump by multiple degrees from July 15
1. Weather expert says there's possibility of decrease in speed of sea breeze due to formation of low-pressure area
Karachi is bracing for another heat spell next week, with temperatures expected to rise by up to 3°C starting from July 15, following a brief respite from the scorching heat due to light rain earlier this week. According to weather expert Jawad Memon, the increase in temperature is anticipated due to a potential decrease in the speed of the sea breeze, likely caused by the formation of a low-pressure area.
Despite receiving heavy rain earlier in the week, which was followed by lighter showers, Karachi residents have not yet experienced significant relief from the heat. Memon also mentioned the possibility of a rain system affecting southern parts of Pakistan, including Karachi, between July 16 and 18.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had previously forecasted heavy rains in Karachi post-July 20. Currently, monsoon rains are affecting various parts of the country, with Lahore recently experiencing a record-breaking downpour of 315 millimetres.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued warnings regarding potential flooding in rivers and nullahs, particularly in the River Ravi catchment area and others like Deg, Basanter, Bein, and River Chenab. This situation could lead to disruptions in transportation, damage to buildings and infrastructure, and impact on crops and livestock.
The NDMA has advised local administrations to monitor the situation closely and take necessary precautions to protect vulnerable populations. They've also urged people to prepare for potential hazards by maintaining drainage systems, reporting blocked drains promptly, and following safety instructions in landslide-prone areas.
