Jimmy Kimmel, host of *Jimmy Kimmel Live*, became visibly emotional following Donald Trump's victory in the 2024 U.S. presidential election.
During the opening monologue of his show on November 6, Kimmel struggled to hold back tears as he described Trump's win as a "terrible night." He expressed frustration, saying, “We chose the criminal” in an election between a prosecutor and a criminal.
The 55-year-old host sarcastically remarked, “More than half of this country voted for the criminal who plans to pardon himself for his crimes. I guess this election wasn’t rigged after all.”
With tears in his eyes, Kimmel continued, “It was a terrible night for women, for children, for the hundreds of thousands of hardworking immigrants who make this country run, for healthcare, for our climate, for science, for journalism, for justice, for free speech.”
He added, “It was a terrible night for poor people, for the middle class, for seniors who rely on Social Security, for our allies in Ukraine, for NATO, for the truth, for democracy, and for decency.”
Kimmel emphasized that those who voted for Trump also faced a "terrible night," though he believed they "just don’t realize it yet."
Despite his dismay, Kimmel couldn’t resist mocking the “brain worms” of those who had “sold what was left of their souls to bow down to Donald Trump.”
He ended the monologue by stating that Trump's victory was a “really good night” for Russian President Vladimir Putin and “lovable billionaires like Elon Musk.”
