JI chief Hafiz Naeem rules out joining PTI's grand alliance
1. Naeem says parties who are members of opposition alliance later act in self-interest which hurts the cause
Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Emir Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman announced that his party would not join the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) proposed grand opposition alliance. Speaking on Geo News' programme "Capital Talk," Naeem emphasized that history shows opposition parties often use such alliances for self-interest.
"We will align with opposition parties on certain issues and hold meetings, but we will not be part of any alliance," Naeem stated. This stance comes as PTI's senior leader Asad Qaiser revealed that PTI founder Imran Khan approved forming a "grand opposition alliance" to lead a robust anti-government movement. Qaiser also noted PTI's support for JI's protest against increased power bills.
The JI is actively protesting against inflated electricity bills and high taxes, with the government engaging in talks to address their concerns and end the Rawalpindi sit-in. Naeem highlighted the government's perceived lack of seriousness in negotiations but stressed that JI would not relent until their demands are met. He demanded transparency in Independent Power Producers' (IPPs) contracts, indicating suspicion of dubious agreements.
Naeem reaffirmed JI's commitment to avoiding alliances while striving to provide relief to the public.
