PMD issues latest update about Muharram moon
1. KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Saturday shared details about the birth of the Muharram moon and when it could be sighted.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has stated that the Muharram moon is unlikely to be sighted today. According to the PMD's statement issued on June 20, the new moon of Muharram will be born at the crossing conjunction point at 03:57 PST on July 6. Given these astronomical parameters, there is no chance of sighting the new moon on the evening of July 6, which corresponds to the 29th of Zilhij 1445 AH.
Additionally, the PMD forecasts partly cloudy to cloudy weather in most parts of the country, which may further impede the visibility of the moon.
Moon Sighting Meetings:
- **Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee**: The main meeting for the sighting of the Muharram crescent will be held in Quetta, presided over by Committee Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad.
- **Zonal Committees**: Meetings will also take place in Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, and Peshawar for the same purpose.
These meetings aim to officially determine the beginning of the new Islamic calendar.
