'It's the right time': England's Moeen Ali retires from international cricket
1. Moeen represented England in 68 Tests, 138 one-day internationals and 92 T20Is
England batting all-rounder Moeen Ali announced his retirement from international cricket on Sunday, stating that he feels it's time to step down after having given his all.
The 37-year-old, who was not selected for the upcoming series against Australia, revealed his decision to retire from all formats of the game. He had previously retired from Test cricket in September 2021.
"I'm very proud of my career. When you first play for England, you don't know how many games you'll end up playing. To have played nearly 300 matches… My initial years were focused on Test cricket," Moeen told the Daily Mail.
"Even now, I've tried to be realistic. I could hold on and attempt to play for England again, but I know realistically that won't happen. My retirement isn't because I feel I'm not good enough—I still believe I can play. But I understand the team needs to evolve, and it's important to be honest with myself."
Moeen reflected on his contributions, saying, "People sometimes overlook the impact you make in games. Even if it was just 20 or 30 runs, it was often crucial. For me, it was about making a difference. I know the value I brought to the team, both on and off the field."
He expressed satisfaction in knowing that people enjoyed watching him play, regardless of his performance.
Throughout his career, Moeen Ali represented England in 68 Tests, 138 one-day internationals (ODIs), and 92 T20 Internationals (T20Is). He will continue to participate in franchise cricket and is also considering a future in coaching.
