PCB Releases Details of Pakistani Players' Salaries
LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has disclosed the remuneration details for players under their central contracts, as reported by The News on Monday.
This revelation follows the team’s early exit from the T20 World Cup 2024, prompting the board to reconsider the players' central contracts.
Central Contract Categories and Salaries
- **Category A**: Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Afridi - Rs4.5 million/month
- **Category B**: Shadab Khan, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah - Rs3 million/month
- **Category C**: Imad Wasim and others - Rs750,000 to Rs1.5 million/month
- **Category D**: Iftikhar Ahmed, Hasan Ali, Saim Ayub, and others - Rs750,000 to Rs1.5 million/month
Additional Earnings
These figures represent only the monthly salaries. Players also receive match fees, win bonuses across all formats (Test, ODI, T20I), and sponsorship perks.
Potential Changes and Risks
The existing three-year contracts, effective from July 1, 2023, were awarded under pressure from players for higher pay by then-PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf. However, due to the recent World Cup performance, some players may face demotions or lose their contracts. Skipper Babar Azam and wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan are particularly at risk of losing their Category A status. Despite this, the salaries are not expected to be reduced.
There are concerns that players might refuse central contracts if demoted, opting to play independently.
Awaiting Reports
The PCB is currently awaiting reports from head coach Gary Kirsten and senior manager Wahab Riaz before making any final decisions.
