Harris overtakes Trump in key battleground states ahead of 2024 presidential showdown
1. Vice president has erased Trump’s lead in competition to gain power in 2024 presidential election
United States Vice President Kamala Harris is currently leading Republican candidate Donald Trump in four key battleground states. According to Bloomberg, Harris has a lead of 11 points in Michigan and is ahead by two points in Arizona, Wisconsin, and Nevada.
Trump, on the other hand, holds a four-point lead in Pennsylvania and a two-point advantage in North Carolina. The race is tight in Georgia, where the candidates are currently tied. If these polling numbers hold through to election day, the candidate leading in Georgia would secure the presidency.
Recent polling by the Democratic Super PAC Progress Action Fund shows Harris leading Trump with 48% to 47% in Georgia. The 71-year-old incumbent is also ahead by two points in Arizona and Pennsylvania.
These results follow President Joe Biden’s decision to step down, which has boosted Harris's standing within the party. Harris is also expected to announce her running mate for the upcoming elections, with Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, Arizona Senator Mark Kelly, and Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg mentioned as potential candidates.
In response to Trump’s announcement that he might skip the debate, Harris has challenged him to attend the event. “Well, Donald, I do hope you’ll reconsider meeting me on the debate stage,” she said. “Because, as the saying goes, ‘If you’ve got something to say, say it to my face.’”
