FIFA could suspend PFF again, says chairman

LAHORE: Haroon Malik, chairman of the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) Normalisation Committee, has warned that the ongoing deadlock between FIFA and Pakistan's newly-elected PFF Congress could lead to a possible suspension of the country from international football.
Malik shared this development during a briefing to the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC), emphasizing that the dispute could result in Pakistan losing its opportunity to participate in global football events and matches, and also halting FIFA's financial support to the PFF.
"FIFA has proposed amendments to the PFF Constitution to align it with international standards. However, the majority of the newly-elected PFF Congress members have not agreed to FIFA's suggestions," Malik explained.
He further informed the committee about the PFF's election process, which began at the district level. All elections have now been completed, and the newly-elected Congress members will oversee the next phase of operations.
Malik also highlighted the PFF's participation in the 2023 Olympic qualifiers, where Pakistan advanced to the second round for the first time. The committee commended the national federation's efforts in promoting football at the Olympic level.
